Yoga.
What springs to mind?
Skinny, bendy people? Wierdos? Stretching? Vegan?
Jessamyn Stanley is not the typical yoga teacher. In her book, Every Body Yoga, she writes: “I am fat. I am not the person you would typically imagine teaching or practicing yoga.”
She is not a skinny-bendy-type but she teaches yoga regardless. Where would Jessamyn be if she had waited until she was ready. If she had waited until she looked like a stereotypical yogi.
As a recovering people pleaser with a greater awareness that those images of perfection are fed to you by the media and society. Who is society anyway? Who is they?
You don’t have to be perfect to start. You just have to start. Sure, there will be challenges along the way. It may not work perfectly first time but that is how you adapt and evolve.
Celebrating the success.
Do you celebrate the small wins throughout your day? The time that you chose a healthy snack over a chocolate, the time you walked up the stairs instead of taking the lift, writing your gratitude list instead of surfing social media.
What are your small wins? Building yourself one step at a time. Looking for the positive rather than all that you have not yet done. Acknowledging that you are making progress, not matter how small.
You have got this!
