As the end of the year approaches, people are winding down and activities are stopping for the year. I attended the final yoga class for the year last week as the instructor is going away for a few weeks. She is absolutely brilliant at what she does and deserves a break.
We all need time-out.
In order to make it through the year, you need to take time out but it is vital to take mini rejuvenating breaks throughout the year, not just once a year when you are exhausted.
I don’t mean that you have a week off every month. But more to incorporate doing one activity that you find rejuvenating and nurturing, preferably daily or at a push, weekly.
As you push through the final weeks of the year what little things are you doing for yourself?
A friend has her hair done at the hairdresser every week, it makes her feel amazing. It is her bit of pampering.
What is it that helps you recharge?
Is it spending 30 minutes walking in nature, meditating, doing Qigong, watching the clouds, spending time with your dog, mindfully giving yourself a foot massage as you put cream on your feet or waking up 30 minutes early to do breathing exercises in peace before the chaos of the day begins or even going to be 30 minutes earlier or having a power nap.
The biggest challenge may not be deciding what to do for yourself but more finding the time to do it without fail. You need not do the same activity daily but do something for yourself. As life becomes busy, you tend to neglect yourself and think: “I will do that later…” and later never comes.
But I am busy and have so much to do…
The benefit of taking those few minutes out for YOU daily far outweigh the time it takes. A few of the benefits for incorporating self-care tasks into your day include:
- Boosting your immune system
- Increased productivity
- Improving your self-compassion
- Discovering who you really are
- Being able to give more to others
What will you choose to do for yourself today? Go on, you are worth it!
