Bushes flying past as the train bolts through the British countryside. Although I have lived here before, I found myself in a different space. I have grown and changed so much since my last visit. In comparison, I am a new person.
You become new as time passes. Your body generates new cells but also because your experiences shape you and change you.
Are you enjoying the new you? Are you appreciating all that it has taken to get you to this present moment? You have been through challenges and tough times, uncertainty, anxiety and fear. You have lived through loss. Looking back, you’ve also had periods of joy and excitement in between.
If you are enjoying your new life, the new you, the current you; that is great, as you created it.
If life is a bit iffy or actually just sucks right now, that is OK too. You know from past experience that you will get through this, you always have, no matter how hard it’s been. You wouldn’t be where you are today if you hadn’t have survived life’s trials so far.
When you are ready, the shift will happen. It may require that you just doing something.
What lies ahead is new and is different from what you have experienced before. Often you expect things to work out a certain way due to past experiences but they don’t.
Just as you would not look behind you as you walk forwards, so to this is unchartered territory. You have not been here before. Sometimes circumstances are similar but not exactly the same.
Look ahead, at where you are going. You can use your experience to help you but you need the information of seeing where you are going to get you to where you want to be.
Like sailing on the ocean, the water may have been smoothing sailing but as you look up ahead a storm is brewing, so you adapt accordingly. If you kept looking backwards, you would capsize and you wouldn’t be prepared for what is in front of you.
As in life, enjoy the present moment but consider where you are going and who you want to be. You are not focusing on who you once were. You are growing, evolving and experiencing new things every day.
So look ahead. Just as you would base your self-esteem on who you want to be not who you were. Focus on looking forward.
