Over the last few weeks, I have been experiencing physical pain which has escalated to the point of making me unwell. Combined with various emotional processes I am going through it’s been rather overwhelming.
That is life. You experience pain and suffering at some stage. Life, as much as you want to be positive and optimistic, it’s not always like that. It is OK to not be OK. It really is!
You may have physical pain or emotional pain or a combination of both. Irrespective of the type, pain it is pain is still pain.
How do you approach life when pain is overwhelming?
Perhaps the obvious thing would be to numb the pain but either eating something to distract you from the emotional pain or take some pill to dull the physical pain. Regardless of your personal chosen method of managing your pain symptoms, if any, it is important to be authentic.
The people that I admire the most are the ones that are willing to be vulnerable in front of others. They are real and honest. Coming from a perfectionist who would likes to present as always being OK and positive all the time, it can be a challenge.
If you are struggling, tell someone. I am not suggesting that you broadcast it to the world but allow yourself the space to be real. If a colleague or someone in your space notices you acting a bit out of character, disclose to them that you are going through a rough patch.
We are all human. We all hurt and bleed. We all feel. Admitting your challenges, albeit in a simply form of: ‘I am struggling with a few things right now’ helps build connection.
Are you willing to connect?
