Where are you right now? Are you here, reading this page or is your mind wondering off thinking about something else?
You only have the present moment. Now, is all you have. One minute ago is in the past and a minute from now is in the future.
They say on average you distracted 47% of the time – either thinking of the past or worrying about that future that we miss the present which prevents you from being happy.
Being distracted detracts you from what is going on right now. The joy of what is happening in this moment. There are so many micro-joys that happen in every day but you miss them as you are not paying attention. You miss the wonders of nature because you are deep in thought.
Small blue butterflies with shiny wings flying on the grass, that beautiful flower that you pass as you travel, the smell of the jasmine in spring or the autumn leaves on the trees marking the change of season, or the smile of a stranger.
Being present gives you the gift of acknowledging the micro-joys around you. You just need to be open to recognise them. Those little things that make you happy or being a sense of wonder for a few seconds as you notice them.
Do you love yourself enough to be present?
