After chatting to a friend who has designed her own effective methodology for coping with life (which has been used on three continents) she felt like a failure for not following it to the T. She hit a bump in the road and has been feeling quite low.
Despite having the ‘winning formula’ and the head-knowledge for what will get her back on track, she just hasn’t yet.
Being aware of what is right, helpful and good for you is one thing, but following it is a completely different story.
Yes, I know that it’s better for me to stay off sugar but sometimes I dive into the chocolate.
You are human. Being part of being human is being flawed and doing things that you know are not the best thing for you, but you do it anyway. That is part of free will. It is also part of learning.
I don’t know about you, but it is easier for me to connect with those people who are NOT perfect. People who don’t get it right all the time. People who mess up sometimes and are willing to share that vulnerability.
It may seem like a contrast as I am a recovering perfectionist, but by other people sharing their flawed human experiences, it gives me permission to also be flawed.
When people are open and honest about their flaws or challenges they face, it reveals their humaness and vulnerability which creates a path for connection.
Not only do I admire people who are honest about their alleged ‘failings’ (also known as genuine human experiences) but also for their courage and bravery to share them. This genuineness radiates a light from within you.
It is a way of connecting my humaness with theirs. I feel it makes people more relatable.
Having a story that you are able to share with others, of challenges you have faced or struggles that you have overcome – opens you up to being authentic. Being real is all anyone could ask for, as it is being fully You!
There is a risk that not everyone will be accepting of your vulnerability and there may be a chance that you could get hurt. This is due to their own challenges and is not a reflection on you.
Are you brave enough to be fully human?
As always, I would love to connect with you. Contact me here.
